Pediatric Anesthesia Rotations

Residents specializing in anesthesiology have a unique opportunity to train at one of the nation's leading children's hospitals. Established in 2001, the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore has been consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the leading hospitals in children's care. In the 2021-2022 Best Children's Hospitals list, Neonatology, Pediatric Cancer and Gastroenterology & GI Surgery ranked among the top 20 programs in the country, and Nephrology and Neurology & Neurosurgery are in the top 50. While many anesthesiology departments send residents elsewhere for pediatric rotations, CHAM is attached to Montefiore's busy main hospital, allowing residents to work their own rotations and take on a greater number and variety of cases. The breadth and mix of caseloads create more opportunities for residents to hone their clinical skills and cultivate rewarding relationships with staff from all disciplines and patients from diverse backgrounds.

Clinical Excellence, Extraordinary Opportunity

Residents are trained in the clinical challenges that are unique to children and are exposed to a variety of clinical scenarios that allow them to study and understand neonatal and pediatric physiology. Residents are driven to exceed expectations, participating in complex cases spanning the pediatric subspecialties including neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, neonatal surgery and transplant.

Superior Faculty

Residents work alongside and are mentored by some of the country's most talented physicians, surgeons and board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists. Our anesthesiology faculty are distinguished by superior teaching skills as well as national and international professional recognition. Recruited from elite institutions around the world and drawn to Montefiore's mission to elevate the standards of care for all patients, our physicians are renowned experts in pediatric cardiology, neurology, cancer, surgery, pain management and critical care medicine. Residents work in teams, collaborating closely with these exceptional specialists in devising individualized patient care plans.

Didactic and Research Curriculum

The curriculum synthesizes didactic education, science and clinical practice, engaging residents in research projects spanning many sectors of perioperative pediatric anesthesia and surgical care. These educational opportunities make the Pediatric Anesthesia rotation at CHAM one of the best in the country.
