Montefiore Workforce Investment Organization (WIO)
The Montefiore Workforce Investment Organization is designed to enable long term care workers to provide services essential for preventing unnecessary hospitalizations, with the goal of improving their patients’ quality of life and reducing medical expenses. Montefiore WIO offers training to a broad cross-section of workers in long term care, with a focus on Home Health Aides (HHAs), Personal Care Aides (PCAs) and Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs). Montefiore also provides recruitment and retention services focused on improving the skills of the workers to enable them to provide high quality patient care.
Montefiore has extensive experience in post-acute care partnerships – with its own Managed Long term Care Plan (MLTCP), two certified home care agencies, a nursing home, a rehabilitation hospital and a skilled nursing facility collaborative. Montefiore has also been awarded two large federal grants to train HHAs: a Health Professions Opportunity Grant (HPOG) from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and a U.S. Department of Labor healthcare education and training grant. Both programs are designed to foster the recruitment, training, retention, and career advancement of HHAs.
The WIO program is an initiative of the New York State Department of Health under New York State’s Medicaid Redesign Team (MRT) Waiver to retrain, recruit and retain healthcare workers delivering long-term care services and to support value-based payment and other delivery system reforms. Montefiore was selected as one of the State’s eight WIOs to provide training services to workers in the Hudson Valley and New York City. WIO services are funded by the State Department of Health through eight of the state’s largest Managed Long Term Care Plans (MLTCPs).
