OB/GYN & Women’s Health – Support Services – New York City – Montefiore Medical Center

In addition to specific medical treatments at Montefiore Medical Center, we offer a variety of seminars, support groups and ongoing education related to women's health.

The first line of support services involves our women's health departments, which provide patients with a wide array of printed educational materials. Additional support services include:

The Prime of Our Lives

This series of six free lectures on menopause and aging covers topics including cancer, osteoporosis and heart disease.

Dine with the Experts

The annual Dine with the Experts dinner brings infertility experts and prospective patients together for an informal question and answer session about infertility treatment. Specialized topics include male infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss.

Group Prenatal Care

Patients who enter the Group Prenatal Care program receive an initial exam that includes a full medical history and physical. Based on delivery date, they are introduced to a group of around 10 women with due dates within three to four weeks of each other. The group shares the same obstetrician and midwife.

At each monthly meeting, lasting up to two hours, group members receive all their usual prenatal care, while having an opportunity to communicate their questions and experiences. They receive valuable information on topics related to health and pregnancy, including:

  • Nutrition
  • Preparation for labor and delivery
  • Breast feeding
  • Expectations for bringing your baby home from the hospital
  • Post-pregnancy birth control options
  • Parenthood

The group discussion allows members to share issues and concerns such as the discomfort, stress and anxiety that may accompany pregnancy, and encourages members to support one another with ideas and advice. The information and reassurance they receive helps many expectant mothers feel more empowered to take control of their pregnancies.

In addition, the first women to give birth often bring their newborns to the final group meetings. They alleviate any anxiety felt by the remaining expectant mothers as they share their positive experience of Montefiore's state-of-the-art birthing facilities.

Counseling for Pregnancy Problems

Our expert staff pays provides options and support to women who have experienced difficulties with conception or carrying a child to term.
