Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences - Residency - Application Process - New York City - Montefiore Medical Center

Albert Einstein College of Medicine is a premier medical research institution with a wide range of faculty engaged in diverse research interests.

Within the Department of Ophthalmology, clinical research is centered at Einstein’s academic teaching hospital, Montefiore, with basic science research focused among several laboratories at the medical school. The department benefits from multiple awards from the NEI and NIH along with a variety of other institutions.

The Office of Clinical Trials is responsible for facilitating all aspects of the implementation of larger scale investigator initiated and sponsored protocols. The Department supports a biostatistician for investigator-initiated projects for residents and faculty.

Residents actively engage in faculty mentored research activities through their residency and have the opportunity to present their research at the annual Paul Henkind Research Day. The department encourages research presentations at national meetings and provides a yearly stipend to each resident to cover travel and lodging expenses.

In addition to clinical and laboratory research, the department has invested tremendous resources into the development of the Center for Ophthalmic Innovation along with the Ronald M. Burde Microsurgical Training Laboratory. The Center is designed to foster resident and faculty exploration in the development and advancement in microsurgical techniques.
