Inspiring and Unforgettable

The 36th Annual Burke Rehabilitation Hospital Wheelchair Games were held Saturday, September 26 and brought wheelchair athletes of all ages and physical impairments, families, friends and volunteers together to this very special competition. There were a variety of sporting activities ranging from a basketball expo, table tennis, slalom obstacle course, track races and field events like softball and discus. Sports are largely known for their therapeutic benefits and the annual Wheelchair Games was no different in helping participants of all ability levels build self-confidence, allowing them the ability to stay active and to enjoy the competition. Participants showed great sportsmanship and determination while demonstrating the true nature of camaraderie.

In addition to the athlete events, the Burke Games featured lots of fun for everyone too including carnival events, live entertainment, silent auctions and raffles. This annual event is produced entirely by volunteers, which includes Burke employees as well as people from the community. It was a truly exciting event and a great opportunity to get involved with the community and be able to share in the companionship.
