A Message from Program Leadership

Thank you for considering the Montefiore-Einstein Ophthalmology program for your residency. Program leaders, which include Dr. Roy Chuck, our Chair; Dr. Sunju Park, our Associate Program Director; and me, the Residency Program Director, are dedicated to the education, well-being and ultimate success of all our residents. Our mission is to create future colleagues in both academic and private practice ophthalmology.

We have a robust faculty including all major subspecialties of ophthalmology. Residents are taught through clinic, surgery, wet lab training and lectures. Our faculty works alongside our trainees to meet a critical need for high-quality eye care in the Bronx, a borough with a population of 1.4 million. We are honored to serve the patients of this community and are committed to providing the best care possible.

We constantly strive to advance our program employing the latest technology and techniques. Toward this goal, we have built the state-of-the-art Burde wet lab, where residents learn surgery alongside our faculty and visiting professors. We also have a lecture portal that allows for flipped classroom learning.

We have a joint internship with internal medicine, which allows our incoming residents to spend half of their intern year doing ophthalmology and related electives, giving them a head start on day one of residency training. First-year residents have the opportunity to choose an international elective in Queretaro, Mexico. While there, residents spend a week with the faculty learning about Mexico’s medical system.

As mentioned earlier, we have a strong focus on resident well-being. Our program offers an on-campus furnished apartment, wellness days, team-building exercises, social activities for residents and more.

We take great pride in our graduates as they enter fellowship or practice extremely well prepared to pursue a successful career in ophthalmology. Thank you again for your interest in our program. We sincerely hope you will consider joining us.
