Fellowships
Maternity Care Fellowship
The fellowship in family-centered maternity care prepares family physicians to provide prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care. Required rotations include obstetrical ultrasound, high-risk obstetrics, neonatology, and labor & delivery, with options for electives such as genetics, infertility, and reproductive health. The one-year fellowship includes a special focus on the needs of patients and families in the context of health inequities.

Palliative Medicine Fellowship
The Montefiore Palliative Medicine Fellowship program trains physicians to become excellent, compassionate clinicians and leaders in the field of hospice and palliative medicine.
The fellowship curriculum consists of a combination of clinical experience and didactic series. Faculty helps to guide fellows in understanding the needs of terminally ill people, providing support throughout the course of advanced illness, and managing physical and emotional factors that contribute to the suffering of patients and their loved ones. Fellows also join in quality improvement work and research.
Fellows work with board-certified palliative care physicians, palliative care trained nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, a chaplain, and other interdisciplinary team members at three campuses across Montefiore Health System. Fellows rotate through a 15-bed inpatient palliative care unit, inpatient consultation service, and services including hospice, pediatric palliative care, long-term care, HIV care, addiction medicine, and interventional pain management.
Applicants must have completed an accredited residency program in family medicine, internal medicine, physical medicine & rehabilitation, or neurology. This fellowship participates in the National Residency Matching Program for fellowship positions.

NYC Homeless Healthcare Fellowship
The NYC Homeless Healthcare Fellowship offers a one-year training program for up to three licensed, board-eligible primary care physicians who join select New York City homeless health organizations as fellows. This fellowship is led by the NYC Collaborative for Homeless Healthcare, which partners with faculty in the Department of Family & Social Medicine to implement the Montefiore-Einstein DFSM Post-Graduate Curriculum in Homeless Healthcare.
The fellowship welcomes graduating residents and early career primary care providers who are passionate about providing care for individuals experiencing homelessness. The NYC Homeless Healthcare Fellowship pairs fellows with experienced homeless healthcare clinicians for clinical training and oversight; provides psychosocial support to promote trauma-informed care, combat burnout and vicarious trauma, and foster resiliency; improves skills related to substance use disorder, wound care, and communicable diseases; and engages fellows in meaningful work to promote skills in advocacy and public health.

HIV Fellowship
The HIV fellowship supports physicians to become proficient HIV clinicians, while strengthening skills in caring for patients affected by HIV within the context of their life and social experiences.

Primary Care Psychology Fellowship
The purpose of this unique one-year fellowship is to train the next generation of clinical health psychologists to become leaders who possess critical and systemic skills to promote the empowerment of marginalized populations in integrated primary care settings.
Following a practitioner-scholar model, fellows provide evidence-based care to individuals and families at one of two Federally Qualified Health Centers in the Bronx as an integral member of the primary care team. Fellows train alongside family medicine residents and receive specific interdisciplinary training on team skills, population health, and complex care management, with a focus on patients with chronic illnesses, culminating in a certification in Advanced Primary Care. Clinical training includes consultation skills, behavioral health assessment, and brief interventions, including behavioral medicine and family-oriented techniques. Fellows will have the opportunity to teach and supervise medical residents as well as one pre-doctoral psychology extern under the supervision of licensed psychologists. Opportunities to engage in scholarly projects are also available.
Ample individual and group supervision will be provided by our core Behavioral Health Faculty. Fellows also participate in a rich array of didactics focused on the impact of psychological and social issues on clinical problems.

Palliative Care Social Work Fellowship
The Palliative Care Social Work Fellowship is a one-year, full-time position to develop specialty trained palliative care social workers who will contribute to the care of seriously ill older adults in underserved communities in New York City and become future leaders in this field.
