Montefiore’s Dennis Gardner Community Relations Team Builds Strong Connections with the Community

Overview

Montefiore’s Dennis Gardner Community Relations Team brings together representatives from across the Montefiore health care system committed to connecting with our community.

We are an internal network of Montefiore associates, representing various departments, programs and services, whose work will benefit from strong partnerships with community-based organizations, support from policymakers and elected officials and access to populations in need of Montefiore’s services.

Named in honor of Montefiore administrator Dennis Gardner, the committee upholds Montefiore’s deep commitment to serving the community. The Dennis Gardner Community Relations Team is led by the Office of Government and Community Relations.

As a team, we collaborate to develop innovative ways to inform a diverse population about what Montefiore has to offer for youth, adults and seniors. We help with activities such as community health fairs; provide access to speakers for community engagements; and work with businesses and nonprofit organizations to find ways to infuse health-related information into local festivals, social events and cultural celebrations. We like to get creative, have fun and develop authentic connections.

Community Engagement Makes a Difference

Montefiore’s work in the community makes a difference. By “leaving the building,” we increase Montefiore’s reach in the community. We conduct health screenings that help with disease detection and prevention, provide resources to improve the health and wellness of local residents, and inform people about the state-of-the-art services we offer onsite at Montefiore.

Join Us

The Dennis Gardner Community Relations Team meets on the first Wednesday of every month (September-June). The meetings are held at various sites across the Montefiore campuses to accommodate our members across the health care system.

Our monthly meetings offer a great way to find out about opportunities and network with others at Montefiore. If a department or program needs support for an upcoming community event or project, we can identify potential partners, make introductions and develop a plan to help to reach the targeted demographic.

About Dennis Gardner

Dennis Gardner joined Montefiore in 1990 as the Director of Community Relations for the Montefiore Ambulatory Care Network, which is now a part of Montefiore Medical Group, our primary care division. He advanced community engagement and led the pre-existing Montefiore group that conducted community outreach. After his passing in 2004, the group was renamed in his honor to celebrate his commitment to community engagement.
