Since performing its first open-heart surgery in 1957, developing and using the world's first transvenous pacemaker system in 1958, and performing the first coronary artery bypass operation in 1960, Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care has become a nationally recognized hub of innovation and clinical excellence in the area of heart and vascular care.
Led by Robert E. Michler, MD, and Mario J. Garcia, MD, and backed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists, Montefiore has maintained a proud tradition of clinical excellence and research leadership in adult and pediatric cardiology and cardiovascular surgery.
