Resident life within the Department of Radiology is important. The department emphasizes a collegial atmosphere in which faculty and residents can work and socialize. Open-door policies are routine, and residents are empowered to share their opinions and ideas. This aspect of our department helps distinguish Montefiore Radiology as a desirable academic environment for residents, with an emphasis on work-life balance.
The culture of a department is equally as important as its academic achievements. In the Department of Radiology, we strongly believe that collaboration and teamwork build a welcoming and amiable work environment that helps us achieve the best patient care. Our residents develop strong relationships with faculty members, who care deeply about the residents’ personal and professional growth. An annual summer picnic brings our families together in a fun and casual setting. Our graduation dinner allows faculty members and trainees to celebrate our shared successes. Recruitment dinners, division outings and department-sponsored happy-hour events also give our residents a chance to socialize outside of work.
A New York State of Mind
Living in and around New York City (NYC) can't be beat. Montefiore's Bronx campuses are conveniently located near several public transportation hubs and major highways, so getting to work from almost anywhere is easy. Most residents choose to live in Manhattan and find the daily subway commute quick, easy — and affordable. Many of our residents with families live in the nearby Riverdale section of the Bronx, a quiet and affordable residential neighborhood where Montefiore maintains staff housing and free shuttle transportation to the Moses Campus. Other residents live in Brooklyn, Queens, Yonkers, Westchester, Nassau County, New Jersey and southern Connecticut. Montefiore also offers staff residences adjacent to the Moses Campus.
Vacation
All residents receive 4 weeks of vacation time off per year. Vacation scheduling is intentionally flexible, to allow residents to balance home and work.
