Conferences and Didactics

Residents receive extensive training through didactic lectures, daily case conferences, and blended-learning conferences. Conferences are given by attending physicians (and some fellows) from all divisions on a rotating basis, with a comprehensive and transparent curriculum, providing a rich learning environment for each resident.

Our teaching curriculum includes the following learning opportunities:

  • Three daily teaching conferences, including daily case conferences
  • Weekly, didactic physics lecture series
  • A week-long magnetic resonance imaging physics course (R2 and R3 residents)
  • Radiology, business, and economics annual educational series
  • “Works-in-Progress,” resident-focused presentations with integrated discussions of research design and clinical research methodology
  • “Radiology 101,” a first-year introduction to departmental operations, patient safety and image interpretation
  • Monthly quality improvement and quarterly difficult-case conferences
  • Radiology-pathology correlation series, in conjunction with the Department of Pathology
  • Monthly Grand Rounds lecture series.

Many rotations will have specific interdisciplinary conferences as well, including the following:

  • Pediatrics: a weekly pediatric surgery conference, a weekly pediatric tumor board and a monthly joint pediatrics genitourinary (GU) conference
  • MSK: a weekly sarcoma conference
  • Chest: various weekly, joint cardiology conferences
  • Neuro: daily neuroradiology/neurology rounds, an ear/nose/throat (ENT) tumor board and ENT/Neurology Grand Rounds
  • VIR: weekly liver and oncology tumor boards
  • Mammography: a monthly tumor board

Additionally, residents attend multiple external conferences, including the following:

  • New York State Radiological Society meetings held monthly during the winter and spring
  • Advanced Interventional Management Symposium (AIMsymposium) and VEITHsymposium, a symposium on vascular and endovascular issues (PGY-4 residents) held in New York each fall
  • Lectures by Eric Hall, MD, at Columbia University (first-year residents)
