Professional Training Programs

The Division of Dermatology at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine is home to one of the finest residency programs in the country. Thanks to our program's long tradition of training excellence, we have turned out many expert practitioners, as well as academic leaders in some of the country's most elite universities.

Dermatology Residency

Physicians completing our 3-year residency program become eligible for certification by the American Board of Dermatology. Residents become familiar with a wide variety of skin disorders in both adults and children through clinical rotations at Einstein hospitals and affiliate. They also care for inpatients with dermatological disorders who are hospitalized at Montefiore and Einstein. Full-time faculty members supervise residents in their clinical activities.

Dermatopathology Fellowship

The Dermatopathology Fellowship Training Program is a one-year, ACGME-approved fellowship. It offers an outstanding clinical training from a faculty skilled in the clinical practice of dermatopathology, clinical dermatology, and anatomic pathology. Fellows rotate through the departments of dermatopathology and dermatology at Einstein/Montefiore and through our affiliated institution, Dermpath Diagnostics. The program's graduates are trained to become excellent clinical dermatopathologists who are well qualified for positions in academic institutions or in private practice dermatopathology laboratories.

Dermatopharmacology Fellowship

The Dermatology Clinical Research Fellowship Program provides in-depth exposure to clinical research related to dermatology, with training tailored to each fellow's needs. Fellows work with academic clinicians to gain the skills needed for planning and conducting clinical trials. They also develop interpersonal and communication skills, become familiar with federal and state regulations affecting the conduct of clinical trials, and become familiar with the drug development process.

Dermatology Basic Science/Translational Research Fellowship

By taking this fellowship, future investigators will gain in-depth knowledge of cutaneous biology, disease processes, and drug development. Fellows are guided and co-mentored by academic basic science researchers and clinicians as they gain the skills needed for careers in translational research. They will learn microbiological bench technique and data analysis, how to write grant applications, and how to compete for funding source. In addition, fellows will master the administrative and leadership skills needed to function as principal investigators.
