Dr. Ghavamian joined Montefiore Medical Center in 1998 and is now the only board certified urologist in the New York Metropolitan area who conducts every modality of surgery (open, laparoscopic, and robotic) for all urologic malignancies. In 2001, he established the first laparoscopic radical prostatectomy program in New York at Montefiore Medical Center, where he also launched the robotic program in 2005. He has also contributed to countless publications and textbooks, and serves as a member of the Urology Executive Committee for the New York Academy of Medicine, as well as a member of the American Urological Association (AUA), the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the New York Urological Society. Currently Dr. Ghavamian is participating in several prostate cancer clinical trials and is investigating how robotic surgery compares to laparoscopic procedures in an effort to advance techniques and therapies for treating urologic diseases.

Dr. Maria performs comprehensive urological services, including minimally invasive and robotic treatment of cancer and other disorders. He carries out all surgical modalities to address prostate and kidney tumors, including partial nephrectomies and nephron-sparing kidney repair and reconstruction. In addition, he helps patients address possible complications of urological surgery such as erectile dysfunction or incontinence. Dr. Maria earned his degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and he completed his residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center/Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. He was a Fellow in the Endourology/Laparascopic/Robotic Surgery Program at Montefiore.
