Montefiore-Einstein has been awarded a three-year, $447,000 grant to grow our their addiction medicine education and training programs for medical students and residents. The Omicron variant of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 may be both more transmissible and better able to evade the immune response than previous variants, although more data is needed. NIH Funds New Center to Treat Chronic Pain and Opioid Use Disorder at Montefiore-Einstein

Montefiore-Einstein has been awarded an NIH grant to establish a multidisciplinary research center focused on treatments for people with both chronic pain and opioid use disorder (OUD). The Integrative Management of Chronic Pain and OUD for Whole Recovery Research Center at Montefiore Einstein (IMPOWR-ME) will receive $5.1 million for its first two years; additional funding at the same level is expected for the following three years. The grant is part of the NIH’s Helping to End Addiction Long-term Initiative, or HEAL Initiative, which aims to accelerate the pace of scientific solutions to stem the national opioid public health crisis. Montefiore Health System and UnitedHealthcare Reach New Long-Term Agreement

Montefiore Health System (MHS) and UnitedHealthcare have reached an agreement, effective December 1, 2021, on a long-term contract that restores in-network access to all MHS hospitals and healthcare providers throughout the Bronx, Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties for UnitedHealthcare and Oxford employer-sponsored plans, as well as UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Dual Special Needs Plan.
