The world’s first HIV-positive to HIV-positive heart transplant has been successfully performed at Montefiore Einstein — one of only 25 centers in the U.S. eligible to offer this transformative surgery. The internationally renowned team performing the heart transplant was led by Ulrich P. Jorde, MD, Head of Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplantation & Mechanical Circulatory Support, Vice Chief, Cardiology; Daniel Goldstein, MD, Vice Chair, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Surgical Director, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Transplantation & Mechanical Assistance Programs; and Omar Saeed, MD, Attending Cardiologist. “...This surgery is a milestone in the history of organ donation and offers new hope to people who once had nowhere to turn,” said Ulrich P.
