Patient & Family Education

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine assures that each patient and their caregivers receive education and training beginning on the first day. Individualized patient and family education may include:

  • Encouraging participation in decision-making
  • Maximizing mobility, self-care, and safe meal time practices
  • Encouraging coping mechanisms
  • Instruction on the importance of medical follow-up
  • Promotion of a healthy lifestyle with appropriate adaptation

Each service considers the patient’s diagnosis, developmental age, desire and motivation to learn, cultural practices, spiritual beliefs, physical, cognitive and communicative limitations, emotional barriers, financial barriers and patient/family learning preferences.
