AposTherapy Treatment at Montefiore

AposTherapy has treated over 50,000 people worldwide. Montefiore is one of the few hospital systems in the United States to offer this innovative treatment for knee, hip and lower back pain.

A specially trained physical therapist will conduct an initial evaluation to determine if you are suitable for the 12-month treatment plan. Schedule your initial evaluation by filling out the contact form here.

You can also call us at 718-547-4940 for additional information.

AposTherapy uses a biomechanical shoe-like device that is personally calibrated by your physical therapist to offload pressure from painful joints, thereby relieving your pain. The foot-worn device also introduces mild amounts of perturbation, which can help retrain muscles in your knees, hips and lower back.

You’ll wear the AposTherapy foot-worn device around the house or at work generally about an hour a day. It’s as simple as putting the shoes on for an hour after work while you’re walking around the house or cooking a meal.

During your initial evaluation, you’ll be asked some in-depth questions about your knee, hip, or lower back conditions. You’ll also be taken through a state-of-the-art computerized gait analysis system that will provide details about your walking patterns and the ground reaction forces acting on your body. Next your specially trained physical therapist will perform a comprehensive visual gait analysis. Based on your walking patterns and answers on the questionnaires, the therapist will then meticulously calibrate your patented foot-worn device. You’ll be sent home with a custom program detailing how long you should use the foot-worn device daily. Have questions? Please feel free to give us a call at 718-547-4940.
