Young Patients Help Raise Nearly $15000 at CHAM's 5th Annual Stomp Out Sarcoma Walk
- July 11, 2011
Patients and family members join CHAM's Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Team to raise funds and awareness
New York City, NY (July 11, 2011) -- Young patients treated for sarcoma at The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) helped to raise awareness and nearly $15,000 for sarcoma research at CHAM's 5th annual "Stomp Out Sarcoma" walk.
The walk, held July 9 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, was CHAM's largest yet, with more than 90 patients, family members and the hospital's pediatric sarcoma team participating. Bank of America was the corporate sponsor.
"Stomp Out Sarcoma" is held annually in conjunction with the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people dealing with sarcoma, a cancer of the bones and connective tissues. Sarcomas account for 15-20 percent of childhood cancer diagnoses and about 1 percent of adult cancer diagnoses. Many sarcomas resist current treatments, so continued research is crucial.
