There are many organizations that offer support and education for the LGBTQ+ community, with services tailored to TGNB clients. From general information on health issues to social and legal support, these organizations can help you navigate many issues and inform your discussions with your healthcare professionals.

Emergency Services

LGBT Switchboard of NY
The oldest operating LGBT hotline in the world, providing active service to the community since 1972. Provides services around coming out issues, relationship and parent concerns, school problems, HIV/AIDS anxiety and safer sex.

Trevor Lifeline
Trained counselors ready to support you 24/7. If you are a young person in crisis, feeling suicidal or in need of a safe and judgment-free place to talk, call the Trevor Lifeline now at 1-866-488-7386.

The Anti-Violence Project NYC (AVP)
AVP offers a free bilingual (English/Spanish) crisis intervention hotline staffed 24/7. Call 212-714-1141 or report online. AVP helps survivors of violence and allies become advocates for safety through participation in community education and outreach, development of organizing campaigns, and the creation and support of city, state and national coalitions to address LGBTQ and HIV-affected violence.

LGBT National Help Center
Provides free and confidential peer support and local resources as well as hotlines and online chatrooms for all ages, including a national youth talkline and a national senior hotline.

Transgender Support Services

The Center
Peer counseling, advocacy and support groups for everyone on the transgender spectrum. A program of the LGBT Community Center.

Legal Services

Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF)
National nonprofit civil rights organization committed to ending discrimination based on gender identity and expression. Achieving equality for transgender people through public education, test-case litigation, direct legal services and public policy efforts.

Lambda Legal
National organization committed to achieving full recognition of civil rights of LGBT people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.

The LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York (LeGaL)
Dedicated to improving the administration of the law, ensuring full equality for members of the LGBT community, promoting the expertise and advancement of LGBT legal professionals, and serving the larger community.

The Sylvia Rivera Law Project
Working to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination or violence.

Creating a safe and supportive environment for LGBTQ youth between the ages of 13 and 24. Through a comprehensive package of direct services and referrals, Hetrick-Martin supports youth and their families, and fosters healthy youth development.

The Ali Forney Center
Protecting LGBTQ youths from the harms of homelessness and empowering them with the tools needed to live independently.

The Door
Empowering young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment.

Family Support Services

COLAGE: Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere - NYC Chapter
Not-for-profit run by and for children of LGBT parents. Engages, connects and empowers people to make the world a better place for these kids. Workshops, community building, speakers and brunches.

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)
Support and education for parents whose children are coming out.

Families of Color and Allies PFLAG (FOCA&A PFLAG)
Meets the first Sunday of every month from 1-3 PM at the LGBT Community Center, 208 West 13th Street (between 7th and 8th Avenues).
