Preserving Joy and Dignity in the Face of a Dementia Diagnosis
- April 12, 2019
Dr. Tia Powell, Shoshana Trachtenberg Frackman Faculty Scholar in Biomedical Ethics; professor, epidemiology & Population health and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Einstein; and director, Montefiore Einstein Center for Bioethics, details new thinking about how to cope with a diagnosis of dementia. In these two pieces, one essay and one interview, Dr. Powell explores ways to preserve dignity and joy in dementia that could potentially keep people at home longer, by focusing on care and not cure. She even includes a playlist of favorite songs, suggesting that music often triggers the happiest memories, and can be a helpful tool.
