Montefiore’s Dr. Lynne Holden Receives Influential Black Women in Business Award

The Network Journal Honored Dr. Holden for Dedication to Her Profession and Community
NEW YORK (March 28, 2014) – Montefiore Medical Center is pleased to announce Lynne Holden, M.D., attending physician, Department of Emergency Medicine, Montefiore, and associate professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, was honored yesterday by The Network Journal at its 16th annual 25 Influential Black Women in Business Awards program. In this national award, Dr. Holden was recognized for her professional achievements that have had significant impact on the medical field and community.
Dr. Holden’s history as a leader in emergency medicine, combined with her work in the community mentoring disadvantaged students, has made her an example to her peers and students alike. During her tenure with Montefiore and Einstein, she has served as site director of the Jacobi-Montefiore Emergency Medicine Residency Program for three years and as co-chair of the Admissions Committee at Einstein for ten years.
“Dr. Holden is an exceptional clinician and we are fortunate to have her as a member of our Montefiore family,” said Andrew D. Racine, M.D., Ph.D., senior vice president and chief medical officer at Montefiore. “Her work in the community is inspirational, and we support her vision of developing future healthcare providers for the betterment of all. Dr. Holden truly is a role model for the students and residents she works with and mentors every day.”
Dr. Holden also is the co-founder and director of the national Mentoring in Medicine (MIM) program, which addresses healthcare disparities in disadvantaged communities by helping to increase diversity in the biomedical workforce and to encourage healthy living. MIM programs include after school programs for middle and high school students, a virtual summer science camp, a hip- hop science play, a medical school preparatory program and a volunteer/shadowing program. The goal of Dr. Holden’s program is to ignite an interest in science and health careers for students while providing hands-on experiences and clinical exposure.
“I love what I do and I pride myself on making an impact in the lives of my patients, other healthcare providers and the youth in our community,” Dr. Holden said. “It is an honor to receive this award and to be acknowledged as a voice for the increase of diversity in medicine.”
Dr. Holden was recognized at the annual 25 Influential Black Women in Business Awards luncheon, which was attended by more than 600 business leaders. She also is featured in this month’s issue of The Network Journal as a Top Black Doctor in Emergency Medicine in the New York Metro Area.
