$2.4 million Federal Grant Makes Additional Health Services Available

Steven M. Safyer, MD, President and CEO of Montefiore Medical Center, and Eleanor Larrier, Executive Director, BCHN, cut the ribbon for the new Montefiore Medical Group expanded facilities.

New York City, NY (June 28, 2012) -- In response to the burgeoning need for healthcare services in the South Bronx, Comprehensive Health Care Center (CHCC), one of Montefiore Medical Group’s (MMG) busiest sites, has undergone a major renovation to create additional clinical space.

A new state-of-the-art OB/GYN suite has been constructed, and six additional internal medicine examinations rooms have been created, enabling CHCC to serve more patients.

The renovations were funded with a $2.4 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant obtained by Montefiore through its partnership with Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN), a Federally Qualified Health Center which sponsors several MMG sites and Montefiore school-based health centers. The grant, the second largest of its kind awarded in New York State, also supported the implementation of EMR technology at other MMG sites including Comprehensive Family Care Center, University Avenue Family Practice and West Farms Family Practice, and staffing needs at the DeWitt Clinton school-based health center.
