Caring Support During Difficult Times
Our reputation and state-of-the-art psychiatric and neuro-psychiatric programs draw patients from all over the nation. But unlike other facilities, our 22-bed inpatient unit forms an intimate setting to ensure individualized attention. Plus, our commitment to respecting privacy and demonstrating unsurpassed compassion offers patients a comfortable haven to discuss mental health issues.
It may be unsettling for patients and their family members to address a psychiatric or substance abuse disorder, but that's where our award-winning team of doctors distinguish themselves from care at other institutions. With specialized knowledge of a full range of clinical services, we deliver a precise diagnosis and carefully determine the most appropriate, customized treatment for each person. Our physicians discuss all available options with patients, and establish a mutual agreement on the best approach to achieving their goals.
At the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, we provide comprehensive care for a full spectrum of general and specialty inpatient and outpatient services, including one of the most advanced neuropsychiatric service centers and emergency and crisis intervention programs. We are also available 24/7 for expert psychiatric consultation services for hospitalization or outpatient needs.
The physicians at our inpatient program focus on evaluating and stabilizing patients for an array of disorders, including:
- Bipolar disorder
- Obsessive compulsive disorder
Our outpatient services are for those who have achieved some stability, but still require additional therapy for psychiatric symptoms. Our specialty outpatient programs offer treatment for many concerns, such as:
- A full range of alcohol or other substance abuse
- Cognitive behavioral disorders (i.e. panic issues, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorders, and post-traumatic stress)
- Memory disorders

Advancing Research and Training the Next Generation
Among many exciting developments at the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Montefiore, we are constructing a new building as part of our expanded substance abuse treatment program. Recent developments and studies here at Montefiore indicate that this drug-free/methadone maintenance initiative is the most successful opiate substitute program for eliminating cravings for drugs. Find out more about these programs.
Additionally, our ongoing research continues to break new ground with new treatments for disorders such as anxiety and depression. Our team has helped countless patients overcome obsessive compulsive and sleep disorders through cognitive behavioral interventions. By studying cutting edge therapies such as this, we continue to address challenges associated with various disorders. Our discoveries are then utilized to enhance our clinical services.
Montefiore extends its vast expertise and unique opportunities to its residents and fellows at the renowned Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM).
