Comprehensive Lung Program
The most comprehensive lung program in the Northeast
One standard. One goal. Proven excellence. That’s what you get with comprehensive lung care at Montefiore-Einstein. Our program includes a team of pulmonologists, lung surgeons, lung transplant surgeons and more, working together in one place, under one leader. We treat all conditions, from the benign to the malignant, the simple to the complex, with highly trained experts providing disease management and treatment, surgery and transplantation.

We personalize the care we offer, tailoring treatments for each patient’s needs, determining everything possible to effectively improve lung function. Through careful evaluation, we work with patients to determine what treatment options are best to effectively manage their condition.
Our team of specialists, nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, nutritionists and pharmacists are focused on providing relationship-centered care. To provide the best care possible, we collaborate with our patients, families, and each other, improving the quality of life and survival.
We maintain COVID-Safe Care measures and are currently treating patients with COVID-19-related lung disease, including post COVID-19 fibrosis.
Our Services
Utilizing the most advanced technologies and therapies available, our team collaborates to provide personalized care tailored to individual needs. At each step along the way, we educate and inform patients to build understanding, address questions and ensure the best outcomes possible.
Lung Cancer Surgery
When providing surgical oncology interventions for lung cancer patients, our collaborative approach extends to include our Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center. Our surgical team complements radiation oncology and medical oncology treatments to provide the most comprehensive lung cancer care available.
See why our Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center is ranked in the top 1% of all U.S. hospitals for cancer care, according to U.S. News & World Report-and in the top 5% of National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centers.
Advanced Lung Failure Care
Montefiore’s Advanced Lung Disease Program is the only provider of interstitial lung service and advanced emphysema treatment to our community. As part of the Comprehensive Lung Program, our team of highly trained specialists come together to provide innovative groundbreaking care.
COVID-19 Lung Care
Working closely with Montefiore’s new COVID-19 Recovery (CORE) clinic, we provide follow-up and recovery lung care to patients who had COVID-19, addressing ongoing symptoms and chronic conditions, as well as any new issues that arise.
Thoracic Surgery
In treating benign lung diseases, lung tumors and emphysema, our care is state-of-the-art. When appropriate, we use minimally invasive lung surgery, including video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic-assisted surgery, to minimize recovery time and improve outcomes.
Lung Transplantation
Utilizing the most advanced technologies and therapies available, our team regularly treats some of the most challenging cases:
- Patients who need pre-transplant external oxygen or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation heart support known as ECMO
- Multi-organ transplants, including heart-lung, lung-liver, and lung-kidney
- Combined transplant and cardiac surgery
- Bloodless transplants that allow us to serve many patients who may have religious objections to blood transfusion
A New Lung Gave Paul More Life
