Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)

The Bariatric Surgery Program at Montefiore Medical Center (Moses Division) has been accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Arising from the collaboration of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), MBSAQIP accredits inpatient and outpatient bariatric surgery centers in the United States and Canada that have undergone an independent, voluntary, and rigorous peer evaluation in accordance with nationally recognized bariatric surgical standards with a goal of advancing safe and high quality care for bariatric surgery patients.

Comprehensive centers are characterized as having all necessary equipment for complex initial and revisional bariatric surgery procedures on a high volume of patients. The Bariatric Program at Montefiore has vast experience in treating patients at the extremes of obesity, once considered too risky for surgery.
