CNN Special Report - Separated: Saving the Twins

On October 14, 2016, James T. Goodrich, MD, Ph.D., D.Sci. (Hon.) and Oren Tepper, MD led the successful separation of Jadon and Anias McDonald, twins born conjoined at the brain and skull. Dr. Goodrich is Director, Pediatric Neurosurgery, CHAM and Professor, Clinical Neurological Surgery, Pediatrics and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Tepper serves as Director, Craniofacial and Aesthetic Surgery, Montefiore and Assistant Professor of Surgery, Einstein.

The McDonalds are the seventh set of craniopagus conjoined twins Dr. Goodrich and his team at CHAM have successfully separated in partnership with global surgical teams. Dr. Goodrich and his team have now consulted on a total of 21 craniopagus conjoined twin sets. Each set of separations has resulted in good outcomes with no deaths or severe morbidities.

The CNN special “Separated: Saving the Twins," offers a behind-the-scenes look at Jadon and Anias’s remarkable story.
