Dana E. Crawford, PhD
Dana E. Crawford, PhD, is an Attending Psychologist at the Comprehensive Health Care Center (CHCC), Director of the Trauma-Informed Care Program and Director of Education and Training for the Pediatric Behavioral Health Integration Program at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Crawford is also an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus is on trauma, somatic symptoms, disruptive behaviors and anxiety. Dr. Crawford joined Montefiore in 2014.
Dr. Crawford graduated from the Center of Applied Technology North, where she acquired a certificate in Practical Nursing. She also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Howard University in 2002. In 2004, Dr. Crawford received a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from Temple University. She then attended Miami University where she received a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 2009 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology in 2012. Dr. Crawford completed an internship in Child & Adolescent Psychology/Consultation Liaison at Tulane University Department of Psychiatry in 2012. Additionally, she completed a two year fellowship with the Department of Defense/Army in Pediatric Psychology in 2014. Dr. Crawford has completed a two year fellowship with the Center for Early Connections, Tulane University in 2017. As a nurse, she specialized in geriatrics and as a behavioral health provider she has worked in schools, residential, inpatient, outpatient, and primary care settings.
Dr. Crawford’s research focus is primarily on trauma, culture competency, and the development of culturally relevant interventions. She has created the culture-based countertransference model used to train providers and staff in the identification and reduction of unconscious bias, prejudice, and racism. She is trained in clinical hypnosis, biofeedback, and alpha stimulation technology.
Dr. Crawford is a member of the American Psychological Association, Division 54. She is the Director of the Trauma-Informed Care Program and the Director of Education and Training for the Pediatric Behavioral Health Integration Program.
