- Taking care of pediatric musculoskeletal problems is the center of Dr. Amaral’s orthopaedic practice. Whether he is treating a fracture, deformity or sports medicine injury, his focus is to help the child get better.

Dr. Amaral obtained his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He subsequently completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Montefiore. Following residency training, he completed a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery/ Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University.
Dr. Amaral is Director of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. He has performed numerous complex procedures and gained national recognition for his humanitarian work. Dr. Amaral has treated patients with conditions of complex pathology that could not be treated in their own country. His novel treatment of severe club feet has also gained national and international press recognition.
He is an active member of the following: Scoliosis Research Society, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, Pediatric Orthopaedic Club of New York, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Medical Association, Montefiore Medical Center-Adult Surgical Services; Quality Assurance Committee, Montefiore Medical Center-Pediatric Surgical Subspecialties; Quality Assurance Committee, Center, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Amaral has also been recognized with the Residency Teacher of the Year Award. His Pediatric Orthopaedic Programs has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report in the Top 50 in 2011 and 2012.
