Residency
The residency training program is conducted by the Leo Davidoff Department of Neurological Surgery of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine(AECOM). Dr. Davidoff, one of Harvey Cushing's trainees, was the first Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery. Clinical rotations occur at Montefiore Medical Center, the University Hospital of AECOM; at Roosevelt Hospital, where the Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery (INN) is located; as well as at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM). Together they comprise a comprehensive program in neurosurgery, neurology and interventional neuroradiology as well as a varied medical environment and case mix that reflect all types of cases that are encountered in a large urban setting such as New York City.
The prerequisites for admission to the program include graduation from an ACGME accredited medical school and completion of a PGY 1 year of general surgery and critical care. All positions are filled through the Matching Program for Neurological Surgery. The usual duration of the training program is 6 years.
Selection is done through the Neurological Surgery Matching Program using the central application form (CAS).
