- Dr. Weinstein was born in New York City. His undergraduate education was at the University of Pennsylvania and he received his MD degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1989. His General Surgical and Cardiothoracic Surgical training was completed at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. He spent an additional 18 months at The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia focusing on Pediatric Cardiothoracic surgery. After graduating from The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Weinstein took his first position as Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Division at The Ohio State University Medical Center and Childrens Hospital, Columbus. In 2005 he took the position of Director, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery and Adult Congenital Heart Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center. His clinical areas of focus are congenital heart surgery, adult congenital heart repair and aortic surgery for Marfans disease. In addition, Dr. Weinstein has a large experience with patients requiring Fontan revision for arrhythmias. In between Dr. Weinsteins cardiothoracic residency and his congenital training, he spent six months as a physician on the Navajo Reservation in Chinle, AZ. He continues his interest in mission work by taking annual trips to Latin America with Heart Care International, of which he is an active board member. He oversees the Gift of Life/Rachel Cooper Program at the Childrens Hospital at Montefiore.
