MONTEFIORE CREATES LADDERS OF OPPORTUNITY IN HEALTHCARE

Earlier this year, Montefiore became one of only seven founding partners in the Health Careers Pathways Initiative (HCP), an effort of the White House and the Departments of Labor and Health and Human Services. HCP will create ladders of opportunity for millions of Americans to move from entry-level jobs to middle class careers in the healthcare sector, where an expected 3.5 million new jobs will be created in the next decade. Part of a broader White House initiative to better align workforce training with employer needs, HCP leverages private and non-profit sector expertise to accomplish goals specific to healthcare, including a common career pathways model and support in the form of training and placement.

Montefiore’s HCP commitment is to work with community colleges, local universities, labor-management training and education funds, and community partners to offer 350 unemployed or underemployed individuals paid internships over the next five years to improve candidates’ qualifications and competitiveness for permanent positions.

MILESTONES OF SERVICE HONORED

Steven Safyer, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer, was joined by members of Montefiore leadership in extending appreciation and congratulations to associates reaching major milestones in their service. More than 5,100 Montefiore associates were recognized this year for their longstanding commitment to the health system at a number of celebrations, including events at the Wakefield, Einstein, Moses and Yonkers campuses to honor five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 year milestones.

These long-term commitments serve to create an environment where colleagues are like family with values of humanity, innovation, teamwork, diversity and equity woven into the daily fabric of our work. This shared dedication shows up as we achieve Montefiore’s vision to be an organization that transforms healthcare and enriches lives.

Congratulations to every associate reaching an important milestone in 2016. Your service and commitment is valued by the Montefiore community. Thank you.

MONTEFIORE HOME CARE GOES LIVE WITH EPIC

Providing in-home medical treatment to more than 3,000 patients is a mighty task. Montefiore Home Care has accomplished this by offering leading-edge services to patients—from neonates to senior citizens—for nearly 70 years. “Epic provides a big boost in communication between home care clinicians and providers across the continuum of Montefiore as medical records are now readily shareable, which results in better care management for patients,” says Pamela Joachim, Executive Director, Montefiore Home Care.

"There are a lot of advantages to an integrated clinical system, especially for nurses in the field as it relates to medication reconciliation," she says. "Instead of faxing and making phone calls to confirm a correct dosage, they'll now have the information at their fingertips."
