Why our program could be right for you

Working within a program that cultivates a framework for lifelong learning, our Otorhinolaryngology Residents acquire the clinical and surgical skills necessary to deliver empathetic, humble and skilled patient care. Our program teaches state-of-the-art medicine informed by evidence and cost, and emphasizes a patient-first ethic while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. We nurture leadership and foster an investigative and curious approach to medicine. In the process, we develop skilled physicians, many of whom move on to the job or fellowship of their choice.

Home to notable programs and our Centers of Excellence

The 726-bed Moses Campus is home to Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and Greene Medical Arts Pavilion (MAP). CHAM is a state-of-the-art tertiary care center, consistently recognized as one of the best children’s hospitals in the nation. The Moses Campus occupies many blocks in the West Bronx, and includes a 25-bed operating room, large medical and surgical intensive care units (ICUs) and one of the five busiest emergency rooms in the United States. The Moses Campus is also home to the Greene Medical Arts Pavilion (MAP), where additional outpatient services are provided on the third floor.

Montefiore Einstein Otorhinolaryngology Residents undergo a very well-rounded, hands-on training. The complex pathology seen in the Bronx is unrivaled and the faculty and residents are fantastic and extremely supportive.

An ambulatory surgery center and specialty care location

The Hutchinson Campus is an 11-floor, 280,000-square-foot patient-focused ambulatory care center, designed for efficient technological innovation, easy patient access and multi-specialty collaboration. The Otolaryngology service shares the vast 10th floor with the Ophthalmology service. This location is also home to 12 outpatient operating rooms, where residents spend the majority of their time.

The department has always placed resident education and well-being as its highest priorities, and the commitment to training superb, well-rounded otolaryngologists remains at the forefront under the leadership of our new chairman.

A partner teaching hospital designated as a Level 1 trauma center

Jacobi Medical Center (JMC) is a 457-bed municipal hospital that provides healthcare for 1.2 million people in the Bronx and the broader New York City area. One of New York City’s largest medical facilities, JMC houses the only burn unit and Level I pediatric trauma center in the Bronx. With a high volume of clinical visits and emergency room visits, JMC is an excellent location for our residents to acquire skills in acute care, trauma and intensive management. Residents are also exposed to many cases of head and neck cancer, which are prevalent among the patients served here.

I was attracted to Montefiore by the opportunities to provide comprehensive care to complex patients, the collegiality within the department, and the institution’s deep commitment to serving the surrounding community.

An unmatched diversity of experience

As a premier academic medical center serving the Bronx, Westchester and the Hudson Valley, Montefiore Einstein offers its postgraduate trainees comprehensive exposure to a broad diversity of patients and pathologies. The diverse range of experience available prepares our postgraduate trainees for future careers in their chosen field, be it in the research or clinical and/or non-clinical setting.

Hear from our residents

As one of the top 10 largest medical and surgical training programs in the country, Montefiore Einstein provides postgraduate clinical training to more than 1,400 residents across 106 accredited residency and fellowship programs. Here, our postgraduate trainees share their own first-hand experiences.

Live and work close to the best of everything

The Bronx, New York City’s northernmost borough, is a culturally rich neighborhood placed at the intersection of Manhattan and its surrounding regions. Our postgraduate trainees typically live in hospital housing or off-site in nearby Riverdale, Lower Westchester or Manhattan, and have access to an unmatched diversity of experiences beyond the program itself.

In the Bronx, with its ample parks and gardens, you’ll learn first-hand why it’s known as “the City’s Greenest Borough.” The neighborhood offers plenty of local food, art, sports and culture, and is just a subway ride away from Manhattan’s famed theaters, museums and attractions.

As a resident of the Tri-State region, you’ll have unmatched access to the city’s cultural offerings, not to mention the bounty of outdoor excursions that are available just beyond. Day-trips and weekend excursions to the Hudson Valley, Catskills, Long Island or New Jersey provide ample opportunities for swimming, hiking, biking, skiing and other seasonal activities.
