Kids Walk with CHAM Hem/Onc Team to Raise Awareness, Funds for Sarcoma Research

BRONX, NY (July 2, 2010) - Join patients, their families and staff from the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department at The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) as they "Stomp out Sarcoma" on Saturday, July 17, 2010 and raise funds for sarcoma research.

CHAM's Stomp Out Sarcoma walk is one of numerous hospital-sponsored events nationwide that will be held in conjunction with the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people dealing with sarcoma, a cancer of the connective tissues, such as nerves, bones and muscles. Sarcomas can arise anywhere in the body and are frequently hidden deep in the limbs. Sarcomas account for 15-20 percent of childhood cancer diagnoses and about 1 percent of adult cancer diagnoses. Many sarcomas resist current treatments, so continued research is crucial.

All are welcome to participate in the CHAM walk, which will take place at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, at the 240th St. entrance at Broadway. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. In the event of rain, the walk will be held at CHAM, 3415 Bainbridge Ave. in the Bronx. For more information or to make a donation, please call (718) 741-2342.
