Leaders in Cell-Based Treatment and Research

As one of the nation’s leaders in cancer research, Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center was at the forefront of developing haploidentical transplantation, which makes it easier for people to receive stem cell transplants. Our leadership and research breakthroughs also helped achieve Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval on the use of CAR T-cell therapy, which showed high rates of complete remission. We’re among the few cancer centers in the country to treat people with this promising type of cell therapy.

At Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, you benefit from receiving care at one of New York’s only facilities accredited for the full spectrum of stem cell transplant procedures by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). We are also an approved Center of Excellence for Cancer and Stem Cell Transplants.

Bone Marrow Transplant (Stem Cell Transplant) in Cancer Treatment

A bone marrow transplant, also known as a stem cell transplant, involves replacing blood-forming cells (stem cells) that have been eliminated by your cancer treatment with new cells. Gradually, these new cells make their way to your bone marrow, where they begin to create healthy blood cells. Transplanted stem cells can come from your body or from the body of a donor.

About Cellular Therapy

Cellular therapies involve taking immune cells from your body, modifying them so they are better able to find and eliminate cancer and then returning them to your body intravenously. CAR T-cell therapy is a type of cancer treatment offered at Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center.
