Pediatric Interventional Radiology

Pediatric interventional radiology (PIR) is a medical field that focuses on minimally invasive procedures in children, utilizing the latest in imaging guidance. PIR doctors perform procedures through tiny incisions in the skin by manipulating instruments within in the body, which are guided by X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound or MRI.

These minimally invasive techniques can be used to treat a problem at its source in the body, often with less risk, decreased pain and faster recovery as compared to more invasive approaches. Our doctors at Montefiore and Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) have expertise in providing these treatments to children, whose size and diverse needs require experience and special care.

Examples of conditions treated by our pediatric interventional radiologists include the following:

  • Aneurysms
  • Arteriovenous malformations
  • Biliary or liver problems
  • Blood clots
  • Bone tumors
  • Cancer
  • Kidney failure
  • Renovascular hypertension
  • Venous malformations
  • Lymphatic Malformations
