Research Opportunities

Together with our partner academic instution, Albert Einstein College of Medicine we are a world class research institution notable for the discovery of Taxol, the founding of the first Department of Genetics in The United States as well as ground breaking research in neural networks, Alzheimer’s disease and prostate cancer.

The Department of Urology Research Laboratory staffed by two full-time PhD scientists provides basic and translational research opportunities to residents-in-training. The lab is internationally-recognized for work on smooth muscle physiology as it applies to multiple urologic diseases as well as novel gene transfer technologies for the treatment of overactive bladder.

Interested residents have the opportunity to work with animal models, cell and tissue culture, plasmid based gene transfer, and advanced immunohistochemical techniques. In addition to the basic sciences, residents are exposed to a robust clinical research program facilitated by active collaborations with the departments of Oncology, Radiology, Nephrology and Radiation Oncology.
