The Department of Occupational Therapy at Montefiore Medical Center provides comprehensive care to those who have experienced physical or cognitive impairment due to an injury or illness. This includes evaluation, customized treatment and education, equipment/home environment assessment (if applicable) and follow-up management. Our goal is to restore patients' function in order to maximize their independence and enable them to return to their daily routine.
Multidisciplinary Care Approach
Patients ranging from newborns to elderly adults come to us from all over the northeast region of the country for our expertise and multidisciplinary approach. We realize each patient's condition differs from the next, so our licensed therapists work closely with experts in other disciplines such as Neurology, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, and Family and Social Medicine, as well as other areas within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine (i.e. speech pathology and physical therapy). Together, along with the patient, we devise a customized treatment plan - including our computerized home exercise program system, Visual Health Information (VHI) - that best suits the patient's condition, medical history and goals.
