Michael deCastro Cabana, MD, MPH, joins as Physician-in-Chief of the Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), and Professor and Michael I. Cohen, MD, University Chair of Pediatrics at Montefiore and Einstein. Dr. Cabana is a world-renowned clinician investigator in pediatrics who has been recognized for his innovative research focused on the diagnosis, prevention and management of common childhood conditions, such as pediatric asthma, as well as his record of mentorship.

Dr. Cabana will lead the next phase of the continued growth of our nationally ranked Children's Hospital at Montefiore. "I look forward to adding to the long tradition of excellence in clinical care, research, education and advocacy at Montefiore and Einstein," Dr. Cabana says. "It is an honor to assume the leadership role at these preeminent institutions. The Pediatrics Department and CHAM are uniquely well positioned to develop new ways to deliver high-value care, discover new therapies, train the next generation of pediatricians, and advocate for children and communities."

The work of the nursing team at Montefiore was honored at the kickoff presentation of the 2019 Epic User Conference in Wisconsin, attended by more than 15,000 healthcare professionals. Montefiore was singled out for achieving a 40 percent reduction in falls since the Fall TIPS program was integrated into Epic at Montefiore. Nurse leaders Maureen Scanlan, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, Vice President, Nursing and Patient Care Services; Mary Ellen Lindros, RN, EdD, Director, Professional Practice/ Nursing Quality Officer; Susan L. Grossman, MPA, RN, Director, Nursing Montefiore Information Technology; and Carmen Nash, RN, Assistant Director, Montefiore Information Technology, presented the Fall TIPS program and how Montefiore integrated and implemented TIPS at the 2018 Epic User Conference. Montefiore has the distinction of being the first to integrate this tool into Epic, and this year Epic has announced it will make this tool part of its base program for all Epic users.
