Montefiore to Open New MMG Site in the South Bronx

This fall, a new Montefiore Medical Group (MMG) site will open in the Melrose section of the South Bronx.Staffed by four full-time family medicine physicians, as well as nurses, support staff and a social worker, the 5,000-square-foot practice is projected to accommodate more than 15,000 visits each year by 6,000 patients. It will be MMG’s first new site in a decade. Construction is ongoing.
Montefiore Medical Group at Via Verde will be located on the ground floor of Via Verde, a new affordable housing complex at 700 Brook Avenue which has garnered national attention for its innovative and eco-friendly design. It has open spaces for exercise and relaxation, roof-top gardens on which residents can grow vegetables, and other features that promote healthy living.
On June 18, Montefiore staff joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, among others, at a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark Via Verde’s official opening.
