Jacob Cynamon, MD
Professor of Clinical Radiology
Chief, Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology
Program Director, Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship Program
Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY

Jacob Cynamon, MD accepted a position at Montefiore Medical Center after completing an Interventional Radiology fellowship in 1989 at NY Hospital/Cornell under the direction of Dr. Tom Sos.In 1992, Dr. Cynamon began a symposium for educating trainees and attending Interventional Radiologists. It began as a program on the management of acute limb ischemia, held during the popular vascular surgery symposium chaired by Dr. Frank Veith, and quickly grew to a symposium that covers the full gamut of Interventional Radiology. Now in its twenty first year, the AIMsymposium, as it is currently known, remains an important yearly educational experience for all its attendees.

Along with vascular surgeons, Dr. Cynamon performed the first endovascular AAA repair in the United States. Ever since, endovascular procedures have continued to evolve. Many new techniques have been described by Dr. Cynamon and his colleagues in publications and at the NY Vascular or IR meetings.

Dr. Cynamon believes strongly in innovation and early adaptation of new procedures. He performed the first TIPS at Montefiore in the early 1990s without having been formally trained in this procedure. He is currently involved in bringing Prostate Artery Embolization to Montefiore as part of a multicenter study that will hopefully lead to FDA approval for this procedure. As Interventional Oncology has grown, Dr. Cynamon has immersed his division in this burgeoning field. He has published and presented on the ability to visualize Drug Eluting Beads on CT immediately post embolization. This was initially not recognized, but now is considered obvious.

Dr. Cynamon has written many peer-reviewed papers. He described the very popular "Lyse and Wait" procedure for declotting thrombosed dialysis grafts. He also published one of the first reports of the Power Pulse Spray technique for the management of DVT. He is the lead author or contributor to over 50 peer reviewed articles, multiple book chapters and solicited reviews. He has been a speaker at many international symposiums, including Interventional Radiology, Vascular Surgery, Interventional Cardiology and Nephrology meetings.

Dr. Cynamon is also the VIR fellowship program director at Montefiore Medical Center. Trainees all leave the program with a sense of accomplishment and a drive to continue learning and establish themselves as leaders in their field.

Dr. Yosef S. Golowa
Assistant Professor, Department of Radiology

Yosef S. Golowa, MD,  received his BA degree, Magna Cum Laude from Yeshiva University in 1998 and his medical degree from NYU School of Medicine in 2002.

He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Medical Center and then went on to Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School for fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. He is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the ACR and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Vascular/Interventional Radiology.

Dr. Golowa has expertise in performing a wide range of vascular procedures, including uterine fibroid embolization, angiography, angioplasty, tumor embolization, vascular access, and thrombolysis in pediatric and adult patients. He has extensive experience in minimally invasive treatments of liver disease, including treatment of portal hypertension as well as interventional oncology treatments of liver tumors. He has lectured and presented abstracts at multiple national meetings, has served as co-investigator in numerous clinical trials. Dr. Golowa continues to be at the forefront of new, minimally invasive therapies and training fellows and residents in these new techniques.
