The Psychosocial Oncology Program offers free individual counseling for cancer patients, family members, those at risk for cancer and medical staff. Services are provided by psychology interns and externs who are supervised by a licensed clinical health psychologist. This supportive service can help you in many ways. For example, we offer support and suggestions on how to deal with sadness, anxiety, treatment side-effects, and lifestyle changes that people with cancer and their families sometimes face. To learn more, call 718-430-2200.
The Reassessment and Evaluation After Cancer Treatment (REACT) Clinic was developed to meet the needs of survivors of childhood cancer. The goal REACT is to maximize patients' quality of life by providing outstanding long-term medical and psychological education, screening and treatment.
We have recently learned that many people who were treated for cancer as children or teenagers are at risk of having certain medical and psychological problems as they get older. Many of these problems may be a result of cancer therapies such as chemotherapy, radiation and/or surgery. General pediatricians and general medicine doctors are often not familiar with the possible late side effects of childhood cancer treatment.
For questions regarding our services, or to make an appointment at the REACT Clinic, please contact Annette Torres at 718-741-2301.
Yoga-Based Cancer Rehabilitation Program
Cancer patients can experience a number of physical and emotional symptoms and side effects from the diagnosis and/or its treatment. Recent research has begun to show that yoga can help improve overall quality of life, emotional well-being, physical symptoms and emotional distress among cancer patients and survivors. For more information, please call 718-430-2380.
