Montefiore in the News

March 18, 2022

Fourth-year medical students at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine were given their moment on Friday as they found out where they will spend the next years of their medical careers.

The graduating class of 173 students got to open envelopes on Match Day to find out which hospitals they will spend the next three to five years at as medical interns and residents.

This group of medical students was spotlighted because of their resiliency, with having to transition to different methods of learning due to the pandemic.

"I'm just so elated,” said April Sosa, a member of the pediatric care team at Montefiore Medical Center. “I wanted to stay in the city, I wanted to be close with my family. Montefiore is my family. There are so many mentors that I have here, so I’m so, so happy. I really wanted to serve the underserved, that's like my primary goal in pediatrics. So, I’m just happy I got social peds, that was my very first choice."

Friday marked the first time since the start of the pandemic that the college was able to hold the Match Day ceremony at full capacity.
