American Diabetes Month at Montefiore: Ways to Better Days
Montefiore proudly joins with the American Diabetes Association to recognize November as Diabetes Awareness Month. Montefiore invites you to raise awareness of this chronic disease in your area, and support prevention and better disease management with yourself, your friends and family, and others in your world.
One in 10 Americans have diabetes — that's more than 30 million people. And another 84 million adults in the United States are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This disease is also a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the US.
The good news is that according to the World Health Organization people who are at high risk for type 2 diabetes can lower their risk by more than half if they opt for a healthy diet and lifestyle – up to 80% of those at risk. These changes include: eating healthy, getting more physical activity, and losing weight.
You can use our calendar to find an event or educational opportunity to suit your needs.
