Chiara’s Story
When Montefiore’s cancer specialists discovered Chiara’s agonizing leg pain was misdiagnosed, and, in fact, a rare form of bone cancer known as Ewing Sarcoma, her future at the Washington Ballet was put into question. Montefiore’s specialists not only treated Chiara, but paved the way for her triumphant return back to center stage.
Louanne’s Story
New York Yankees fan Louanne Mitchell dreamed of taking part in the team’s winter fantasy baseball camp. She was a picture of good health when she noticed a small bump on her leg that her dermatologist removed and sent out for routine testing. The results were shocking – metastatic malignant melanoma.
Departmental Highlights
Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center has again been recognized with Three-Year Accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons.
Haejin In, MD, Surgical Oncologist, recently published an article titled “Surgical Treatment for Gastric Cancer.” The article will be featured as a chapter in the July issue of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics of North America quarterly journal.
Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center is at the forefront of CAR T-cell therapy, when a patient’s own immune cells get modified with a heightened ability to identify and destroy cancer cells.
We are the founding partners in developing the first proton center in New York City. Proton therapy is an advanced form of radiation therapy that’s capable of achieving remarkable precision when killing cancer cells.
