Biography:

Susan Frank, MD, FACR, is Attending Radiologist at Montefiore and Associate Professor of Radiology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus is on ultrasound imaging. In addition to examinations of the abdomen and pelvis, Dr. Frank has created unique formats to follow patients after surgery for thyroid cancer using 3-dimensional ultrasound. She has pioneered the use of 3-dimensional ultrasound to evaluate patients with primary hyperparathyroidism.

Dr. Frank earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1972 at the University of Pennsylvania. She attended the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 1977. Her postdoctoral training began at The Roosevelt Hospital, where she completed an internship in Internal Medicine in 1978. Dr. Frank then went on to complete a residency in Diagnostic Radiology in 1981 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, followed by a Body Imaging fellowship in 1982.

Dr. Frank’s current research interests focus on the uses of 3-dimensional ultrasound. She has published research papers comparing the efficacy of this new technique with standard ultrasound techniques in evaluation of parathyroid glands, cervical lymph nodes, renal transplant arterial anastomoses, the biliary tree, and the structures, both normal and abnormal, of the neck. Her work has been published in many reviewed journals and presented at regional, national and international conferences.

Dr. Frank has been recognized many times for her contributions to medical education. Her educational exhibits have received several certificates of merit from the Radiological Society of North America Education Awards Committee as well as the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. In 2016, she received the Davidoff Society Education Award in recognition of her contributions to the education of students at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Frank is a member of several professional societies, including the American College of Radiology, and the Radiological Society of North America, and is a Senior Member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
