Biography:

Breck Borcherding, MD, is Director, Consultation and Training, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities at Montefiore, and an Assistant Professor at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since joining the Montefiore team in 2018, his clinical focus has been on autism and intellectual disabilities.

After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Behavioral Science at the University of Chicago, Dr. Borcherding attended the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1980. At the University of Rochester Medical Center, he completed an internship and residency in Pediatrics. His training continued with a residency in General Psychiatry, followed by a fellowship in Child Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. He completed postgraduate training with a research fellowship in Child Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health in 1988. From there, he had a career in a private practice with connection to the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins. In 2014, he joined the faculty in child psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine.

Dr. Borcherding’s research has focused on ADHD and its relation to other comorbid disorders, neuro developmental disorders, and clinical psychopharmacology in children. His research has been published in various journals and articles, as well as presented nationally.

Since 2016, Dr. Borcherding has been on the Committee on Collaboration with Medical Professionals of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. In 2017, he received the Child Psychiatry Teaching Award, presented by the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Borcherding is board certified in Pediatrics, General Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders.
