Dr. McAuliffe’s clinical studies focus on treatment of colorectal liver metastasis, and pancreatic tumor progression and metastasis. He also specializes in the care and discovery of malignant and benign diseases of the pancreas, liver and upper gastrointestinal tract.

While still early in his career, Dr. John C. McAuliffe has already established himself as a committed surgical oncology researcher and skilled surgeon in complex cancer cases.

Dr. John McAuliffe joins the Montefiore surgical oncology team with specialized expertise in complex stomach cancers and pancreatic cancer. He comes to this team after completing a complex surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City; it is the most recent accomplishment in a sequence of advanced surgical oncology training. Prior to his fellowship, Dr. McAuliffe was Administrative Chief Resident at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital, where he completed his residency training in general surgery. Dr. McAuliffe earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and his PhD in cancer biology: human based biological research from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

His research interests focus primarily on pancreatic cancer and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. He has published several journal article and co-authored book chapters related to surgery for pancreatic cancer. Dr. McAuliffe has won numerous awards, including the Academic Achievement Award and the Outstanding Senior Resident Teaching Award, both in 2014, from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
