The Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center and NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi (formerly Jacobi Medical Center) is the oldest in New York and one of the oldest in the nation. Established in 1975 at Jacobi and partnered with Montefiore since 1996, we have graduated thousands of residents, with some of the program's first graduates remaining as faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Our program offers unparalleled training opportunities, given the enormous volume and high acuity of the patients that we see on a daily basis. Our Emergency Departments annually see over 300,000 patients. Our board-certified physicians' dedication to providing excellent emergency services to the surrounding community is unsurpassed.

We provide the major—and often only—access to medical care and education for large segments of our catchment area.

Patients come to our Emergency Departments with a broad spectrum of ailments and injuries, ranging from cold symptoms to heart attacks, ankle sprains to gunshot wounds, abrasions to severe burns.

Montefiore is a recognized leader in stroke services, with a specialized team of stroke specialists who are on call 24/7. Our stroke experts cater to patients who are candidates for thrombolysis, the powerful clot-buster medication.

Jacobi Medical Center is an American College of Surgeons Verified Level I Trauma Center and serves as the region's hyperbaric referral center as well as the only burn unit in the Bronx. It is also the location of the Jacobi Medical Center/Wildlife Conservation Society Snakebite Treatment Program.

Our residents will also train at Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), the only hospital in the Bronx exclusively dedicated to meeting the healthcare needs of children and one consistently recognized for its clinical excellence and innovative research.

Once you graduate, you will be ready to dominate and excel in any situation you encounter. Your experience will include graduated responsibility:

• Third-years rotate to manage the Jacobi Medical Center ED, where you will serve as the medical or surgical chief. In this capacity, you will evaluate every patient that presents to your side of the ED. You will initiate treatments and assign patients to the junior residents. You will also serve as the resuscitation leader for medical and surgical cases.
• Fourth-years rotating at Jacobi function as Pre-Attendings, running your entire half of the ED.
• Fourth-years work nearly exclusively in the Critical Care area of the Montefiore ED.
