Application Requirements

The Department of Psychiatry Residency Training Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). The program uses the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our ACGME ID is 4003511131. We recruit every academic year for 12 PGY1 positions.

Candidates must hold an M.D. or D.O. degree, or must be currently a senior medical student in an accredited U.S or Canadian Medical School. All applications need to be submitted via ERAS by October 1st. Our recruitment team will do a holistic review of applications to our program. We start offering interviews via email in mid October, and our recruitment team interviews from end of October to end of January/early February. All interviews are done virtually.

The following materials are used for evaluation of all resident candidates:

  • Original ERAS application and/or updated curriculum vitae
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Notarized copy of medical school diploma (plus translation if not in English)
  • Original copy of MSPE (plus translation if not in English)
  • Original and final medical school transcripts (plus translation if not in English)
  • Personal statement
  • Interview with program directors
  • United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores (minimum passing score required)
  • Supplemental application if available

For candidates who have graduated from foreign medical schools, the following additional criteria apply:

  • Clinical experience in the U.S is required
  • Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification
  • J1 or H1 visa
  • One letter of recommendation and direct clinical evaluation from a clinical experience in the US or Canada.
  • Applicant most be within 3-5 years of graduation from medical school.
