Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

Recovery from a cardiovascular event such as heart attack, angioplasty, bypass or heart valve surgery begins while the individual is hospitalized and continues even after hospital discharge.  One of most valuable benefits of our Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation is a vast improvement in overall quality of life. Many of our patients graduate from our cardiac program feeling better and stronger, and with a renewed sense of control and well-being.

Our Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed specifically to meet the needs of heart patients who need a comprehensive, structured and carefully monitored approach to aid in recovery. Our specialists work with individuals who have experienced a variety of cardiovascular events, including but not limited to:

  • Angina
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • Cardiac Valve Repair or Replacement
  • Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting
  • Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
  • Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack)

Outpatient Cardiac Program

The program generally includes 36 sessions over the course of three months, with three sessions weekly.  Both a physician, who is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has extensive training in internal medicine and cardiology, and an exercise physiologist closely monitors all sessions. Together, we provide a long-term maintenance program designed to help you:

  • Gain better understanding of your condition and how to manage it.
  • Increase your ability to perform daily tasks and facilitate a faster return to normal life and activities.
  • Improve your general health.
  • Regain your strength, prevent your condition from worsening and reduce your risk of future cardiac problems.

State of the Art Technology and Comprehensive Support

Our team utilizes state-of–the-art monitoring and exercise equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, rowers and other specialized machines to exercise the whole body to achieve overall conditioning and optimize recovery.

We carefully track your progress throughout the program and report detailed updates to you and your referring physician. Other key components of the program include:

  • Nutritional Education: Informal guidance about nutrition will help you make healthier food choices aimed at reducing fat, sodium and cholesterol, and, if necessary, lose weight.
  • Lifestyle Counseling: Our team understands that dealing with cardiovascular disease may require significant changes in attitudes and lifestyle. We'll develop techniques to manage fatigue, anxiety and stress and give you a new perspective on taking care of yourself and minimizing risk factors for further disease.
  • Emotional Support: It is common for patients to experience depression and fear after a cardiovascular event. To ensure that you are not alone in your recovery process, we provide continuous support to address these issues.
